Portsmouth Karate Club holds a significant position in the southern region of England for Shotokan Karate. The founding club in this region, it has a deep-rooted tradition, with Sensei Dewey having been involved, either as a student or instructor, since the late 60s and early 70s.
The club's influence spans far and wide. Many southern clubs owe their existence to the groundwork laid by Sensei Dewey, such as those in Petersfield, Brighton, Chichester, and many more. It's impressive how many gyms have been set up and passed on to qualified instructors with the help of Sensei Mick.
The current Portsmouth Karate Club still benefits from the teaching expertise of Sensei Dewey, mainly on a Thursday. Additionally, Sensei Stacey Crowe (6th dan), who looks after the club's registration and student administration, takes up the mantle on Tuesdays.
Perfectly located opposite St Faith’s Church at the Portsmouth Academy in Fratton, the club remains a beacon of the region's karate tradition and continues to thrive.
