The Jason Bohs School of Martial Arts (SMA) offers an accessible gym and a spectrum of martial arts classes. Its primary aim is to develop well-rounded martial artists who are capable of self-defence and social responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to maximise their potential, embracing character-building qualities such as discipline, respect, and humility.
SMA provides a broad range of martial arts, affording a degree of freedom and versatility in movement. Influenced by Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do principles, classes may encompass Jun Fan Martial Arts, Filipino Martial Arts, Grappling and more. The focus is on using the right techniques at the right time, rather than adherence to a specific style or tradition.
The school emphasises the importance of individuality, recognising that what works for one student may not work for another. It encourages learners to find their own 'way' and continually evaluate their skills, rather than striving to imitate others.
While functionality is valued, selected training drills are also practised to build motor skills, reflex, timing, speed, and power. SMA's main principles are directness, simplicity, and economy of motion, fostering an 'attitude and spirit' that makes martial arts an integral part of character development.
